Relate defines “family” broadly as any group of people who consider themselves to be a family. They may not necessarily be directly related and may include significant friends. Typically, we might see parents or step-parents with all or some of their children, young or adult siblings, or further extended family groupings.
If your family is having problems, you can see one of our Counsellors individually, as a small group or the whole family together. The process will begin with a careful assessment of the issues, at which each family member will be given an opportunity to voice their concerns and share ideas about their resolution.
Our Counsellors are trained to enable members of the group to communicate more affectively and listen more attentively, so that an understanding can be reached upon which future negotiations for change may be based. These conversations aim to build on the strengths contained within the family, in order to move things forward in a positive way. |
