Relate counselling is open to anyone aged 16 or over, who would like help in resolving their relationship difficulties. When you first contact us, you will be invited to attend an initial assessment that will last for up to an hour and will be conducted by one of our more experienced Counsellors. This will help to identify the issues that you wish to address so that you can access the most appropriate form of help for your particular situation.
Following this, if counselling is agreed to be the most appropriate next step, we will arrange regular appointments for you to meet with one of our Counsellors. These meetings will normally be at the same time, on the same day each week and will last for up to an hour. The average number of sessions that our clients seem to need is around six, but the work can continue for as long as both you and your Counsellor feel that it remains helpful.
Your Counsellor will help you to explore the difficulties that you are experiencing, in order to achieve a more complete understanding of your situation - a better understanding of yourself and of your partner. When people understand things more fully, they generally find they are more able to identify the changes that they might usefully make, either together or separately. The process is conducted conversationally, aiming to improve communication and resolve misunderstandings. |
